Walking in the footsteps of the saints

“On one of those wintry days [Saint Josemaría Escriva] looked down at the snow and saw foot-prints left by bare feet. He realized that they had been made by one of the Carmelite friars who had recently arrived in the city. He wondered: If others can make such sacrifices for God, can’t I offer him something? It was a thought destined to remain with him for the rest of his life.”

The lives of the saints should encourage us when life is not so simple and easy. The saints show us that everyday holiness is possible. In fact, thousands and thousands of people have already run the race before us and have reached the final destination.

It is our task to walk in their footsteps, following their example and offering our lives with theirs as a beautiful sacrifice to God.

The saints give us hope that, whatever struggles we encounter in life, we can persevere with the help of God. We may experience great suffering in this life, but the good news is that God is with us every step of the way.
