Lord Jesus Christ, you changed Matthew’s life by the Good News you entrusted to him. May we be grateful to those who preserved the Gospel words and spread them to the utmost bounds of the world. May we receive the Gospel with reverence, live it in faith, and hand it on in love.
God our Father, the Blessed Virgin Mary took part in her Son’s redemptive suffering for love of you and for the sake of the world. Through her intercession, may all your Church’s suffering bear saving fruit in Christ our Lord.
O God, we pray for our nation on Labor Day: that our work will be directed to God’s glory, and that the unemployed will obtain suitable work. Grant that all men and women find work that befits their dignity, joins them more closely to one another, and enables them to serve their neighbor.
Mother Teresa, you allowed the thirsting love of Jesus on the Cross to become a living flame within you, and so became the light of His love to all. Teach me to allow Jesus to penetrate and possess my whole being so completely that my life, too, may radiate His light and love to others.
O God of wisdom and of love, you inflamed St. Augustine with the love of Christ, who is your wisdom and your power. Through his intercession, pour out into your Church anew each day the burning fire of the Holy Spirit, to inflame all hearts with love for your beauty and your truth.
O God of all kindness, strength of those who weep, you gathered up with love St. Monica’s tears for the conversion of her son Augustine. Through the power of their intercession, grant us the grace to know how to weep for our sins and to seek out those who stray with our prayers.
Our Lady of Knock, Queen of Ireland, you gave hope to your people in a time of distress, and comforted them in sorrow. Help me to remember we are all pilgrims on the road to heaven. Fill me with love and concern for my brothers and sisters in Christ. Comfort me when I am sick, lonely, or depressed.
We lift up our prayers united with the Blessed Mother, who today is assumed into heaven, for all who have left the practice of the faith, that through the intercession of the Queen of Heaven they receive the grace to return to the sacraments.
Loving and merciful Father, who grant favors to all who seek you, through the intercession of St. Clare may we draw ever closer to you in poverty of spirit and joy of life. We pray for for all Poor Clare nuns, that they may live in joyful fidelity to the heritage of St. Clare.
O God, you have enlightened your Church by the eminent virtues and preaching of St. Dominic, your confessor. Through his intercession, mercifully grant that we may be protected against temporal necessities and daily improve in all that is spiritually good.
